Ephemeral bliss

We ran tirelessly for miles swift like a dart.

With no destination in our hearts,
The bliss of elopement makes our faces bright.
To find a haven of safety and happiness,
With joy, " We eluded him" she said,
I nodded "No one to threaten us here," I said.
In a warm embrace, were we locked
Hands entwined, our love path towards sunset.
Then came in the shot,
Boom! It rang like thunder to my hurt,
Into my love-filled heart, it slots
Now unto the dust, my lot.
Shock reflected in her eyes,
Down I went with eyes filled with tears,
Her heart cried with distress,
As I lay cold in her arms.
With the blink of her tears
Did I close my eyes,
Slipping into darkness warm embrace.
